Meet Mark & Bec
Honest travel advice for couples in their 40s and 50s who still have a life at home — real trips, real opinions, no highlight reel.
Travel for couples who still have a life at home
Street Eats & Window Seats is a couples travel blog and YouTube channel built around one simple idea — travel should fit around real life, not replace it.
We’re Mark and Bec, an Australian travel couple who’ve spent the last 26 years exploring the world between annual leave requests, school holidays, and the demands of full-time jobs. After visiting more than 45 countries together, we realised most travel content doesn’t reflect how real people — especially midlife travellers — actually plan and experience a trip.
That’s why we created this space — to share honest experiences, realistic travel advice, and the real story of what couples travel looks like when you see the world very differently from each other.
Two very different travellers
Every travel couple has their dynamic. Here’s ours — and why travelling differently actually makes the whole thing work.
Mark gets up early, camera in hand, and is always first out the door to chase the light. A disability support worker by trade, he brings warmth, humour, and a deep love of local craft beer to every destination.
Big hair bands from the 80s on the playlist and a Long Island Iced Tea in hand — his travel after 40 looks very much like a man who knows exactly what he loves.
Bec prefers a slow start, a proper hotel breakfast, and a long wander through the best shopping streets a city has to offer. She manages aged care packages professionally — practical and no-nonsense on every trip.
A Bon Jovi fan with a Gin & Tonic in hand, her approach to midlife travel is simple: comfort, good food, and zero apologies for sleeping in.
A beach, a purple purse & 26 years later
The Mark and Bec story began on a beach on New Year’s Eve, 1999. Mark first met Bec through her boyfriend, who he knew from his home town. As life goes, things happen — they kept running into each other at a local service station where Mark worked.
“Mark noticed this small purple purse she was carrying straight away. Weird? Maybe. But it blossomed from there.”
After Bec’s relationship ended they started dating, and as they say, the rest is history. Twenty-six years, two daughters, and more than 45 countries later — this travel couple is still planning their next escape around annual leave and flight deals.
Their daughters, born in 2005 and 2008, have been dragged around the world with them. One now lives in China. The misadventures are legendary too — wrong city in China, missed flight in Vietnam because the holiday was just too good to check emails. That’s what realistic travel advice looks like from the inside. You can read more about our long term travel adventures and how we made it work with kids.
